I love wrapping gifts. I love buying gifts. I thought I'd share with you my holiday wrapping this year:

Last year I did a strictly red and white theme. This year I went for a variation on it, adding brown. Next year I think I'll do something completely different! I love red and white though so it was hard to not continue that theme, especially with the red berry branch wrap! It was one of the most popular wraps this year and sold out pretty quickly. I'm lucky to have snatched up a roll. I did get to use some of my bakers twine that I trekked through Borough Park for last winter.

Spaghetti Squash

This week I made something completely new to me. Spaghetti Squash. If you don't know it, wiki it. Here's the short of it: when you cook it the squash comes out in long threads resembling spaghetti. It can be prepared like spaghetti with

red sauce, or you can prepare it in anyway you want. The texture and flavor is quite versatile.

I decided to start with something easy: Emeril's Herbed Spaghetti Squash. I figured I had several

dried spices and I could just wing it.

I like winging it.

The squash was purchased from Fairway. I bought two mini organic ones. They are very cute.

I used sage and poultry seasoning for my herbs.
Cutting the squash was difficult and I had to use two hands on either side of the knife. I highly reccomend a very sharp knife. I have since sharpened mine in hopes it will make my second attempt easier.
The recipe says to cover it in foil. I didn't have foil so I didn't and everything turned out fine!
It does take an hour to cook, but the reward is great!
Butter is the star of this, lets be honest.
I also added parmesean cheese which was very good.
There were just a bit of leftovers from myself since I was very hungry. I shared them with a hungry friend.

This comes highly reccomended. If you can still get them at your grocery store (and you should be able to) you should buy one today!

Table Quilt

I made a quilt yesterday morning. I unpacked my fabrics in order to get rid of more boxes and was inspired. The table was a vintage find my aunt got in Cincinnati. There are two matching chairs and I'm looking into getting some yellow folding chairs from Ikea to facilitate more seating. I've been keeping my reusable bags in that bowl/planter (also vintage, from my Mom.)

Quilt only took me about 3.5 hours, and was a great stash buster. I'll probably make a few more this winter.

Now with the weather heating up, more and more people are bringing out the fashion and giving into trends. It seems I too have succumbed to the spring/summer fads. Let me explain: A month ago I started to see neon emerging around every corner. H&M had a bunch of neon accessories in their Divided line. Forever 21 was the same story. JCrew's windows had (and have) neon caution tape artfully draped near hot pink belts and accessories attached to neutrally dressed dress forms. Who knew neon? And then there were the manis and pedis!

And so I searched. Everything neon was either too expensive, or too cheap. Most were all the wrong color and not nearly neon enough. Recently (within the past year) I had weeded through my nailpolish and thrown away anything old and anything not Essie. To my (not) surprise the perfect neon shades this season: Essie! Punchy Pink is where it's at, although you can find 3 other colors in the neon line: http://www.essieshop.com/index.php?cPath=68. And now I can't stop thinking about neon.

Any good sources for neon barrettes or bobby pins?

It sure is cute though, and it is perfect rain/jacket combo. I don't feel like I'm wearing a rain coat when it isn't raining. Many of the jackets I looked at were definitely crunchy, slick raincoats. This one is the perfect texture.

It is now on sale and I could have saved money! boo hiss! c'est la vie!

At my job we got some friends and family cards to Gap Inc which ended yesterday. So after work I hightailed it to all three stores (Oldn avy, Gap, Banana Republic) to check out the jackets.

FACT: Gap Inc. has terrible jackets this year and an extremely small selection of them.

Note: My friend Sarah got a jacket yesterday at Oldn avy which is perfect for her, but would be terrible for me.

The Green Gap "Belted Trench" fit nicely, however it has these flaps at the shoulders which don't lay nicely against a zaftig figure.

The "Cotton Trench Jacket" from Banana Republic while well constructed (and most quality of the jackets) also didn't fit well over said zaftig figure.

I haven't made it to Macy's yet, but I'm sure it will fit, it is just a matter of if I will like the fit. I might go up there today or tomorrow and check out the coat selection. I believe I might even find some other choices I'd like. I will try to stealth take pictures of myself in the dressing room in them to share with you.

Also I appreciate everyone's feedback. I've never had so much fun picking out a jacket before! :)

I've decided that after years (5?) of wearing my trusty Maranac jacket (Land's End) I need to update my spring outerwear.

Carrie from Ruby turned me on to a discussion on one of the sugar boards which came up with two versions of the chair from Sex and the City movie.

One is a cheap (cheap being a relative term in this case) and from Pottery Barn

One is the original and is available for the low low price of $4995. (You can find a picture in the PDF formatted catalog on their site, page 109)

You can now start saving up because I'll be affording a rooftop terrace to sit it on as soon as you feel like dropping five grand on me!

A family favorite in our house growing up (and still to this day) is Spaghetti Carbonara. We are huge fans. How can you go wrong with bacon?! Carbonara is easy to make and easy to consume!

In my search for easy to make, easy to pack for next day lunches, dinners I came across this recipe. Since I recently discovered eggplant (who knew I'd love it so much?!) I thought I'd give squash another try. I was obviously wooed by the bacon, and carbonara aspects of this dish. The mention of Asiago cheese clinched the deal.

The squash adds a subtle flavor, and is mostly enjoyable as a texture. Squash is technically a fruit and is high in vitamin A and is low on the glycemic index.

It was super easy to make, enjoyable to eat. (I haven't tried leftovers yet, but I always love the leftovers).

In several recipes I've made lately there is the step of saving the water from boiling the pasta. I had never heard of this before, but it is a fantastic step in making sauces. One could make an alfredo or white sauce very quickly by doing this. You add heavy cream to the party, melt cheese in the mix then thin the whole thing out with the starchy goodness water! Very clever.

Zucchini is something I've always disliked, I bet it will be my favorite new food here soon...

I'm learning to cook! fun!

this was super yummy! It yielded enough for 8 though. I would split it next time. Usually they are for 4 and feed me for 3 meals or so. I would have also put much more garlic in it! I needed to roast the cauliflower much longer than the recipe called for, but I'm assuming that my oven is to blame. I'll do this again, I think Carolyn would love it!

I recently made this. The picture is from the martha website, as I forgot to take a picture of it. It was super easy to make and very delicious! Makes for good leftovers too. I highly recommend it.

You use pre-made polenta that you get at the store. (It comes looking like a sausage.) The recipe calls for fresh plum tomatoes, but I used canned and used all the juice from the can. It made for an excellent sauce.

The one thing I would have done differently is when there are 15 minutes left, layer cheese on the dish!

Fish Tacos with Salsa Verde and Radish Salad

Last week we made these Fish Tacos from Everyday Food Magazine. We have the actual magazine, but they have it on the Martha Stewart website also. Everything we've made from Everyday Food has been super fast, super easy, and super delicious!

The girls like fish, but I don't so I purchased some refried black beans from the market. The flavor combinations worked very well. I would reccomend the salsa verde and radish salad with any type of taco, but they worked very well together.

We had some suggestions for when we make it again. The girls found that the fish could have been marinated. They said it lacked flavor. I was thinking we could do some cilantro salt and lime juice.

We would have made tons more salsa verde because it went quickly. It would have been nice to have more for the leftovers also.

Red onion would have been a fantastic addition to the radish salad.

I added cheese to mine and it was great, and the girls thought that a white queso would have been fantastic also.

You've got to make these, they were amazing!

I work with a man who along with his partner has started a baking business based out of Hells Kitchen NYC. The business, Joey Biscotti sells a plethora of baked items. My co-worker brings in samples all the time, and let me tell you: everything has been amazing!

Currently they take orders via email and by phone; details are on their website.

I'm loving the pictures they take of all the cakes cookies and of course biscotti! The opera cake sounds divine and the ingredients remind me of crack cake (a family and friends favorite).

The picture I've included though, this is the money. They are "cheesecake pops": as in each of those colorful beauties is CHEESECAKE!, not apples(as I originally thought).

Sorry to those of you who have readers because its a lot of work to do a cut entry in blogger!

This is our little passionworks corner. We've got the passionworks flower, the cute little clock duder and Bonnie's adorable little table. Her mom took it to the studio and had them paint it for her graduation present. How cool?! I want to have them paint a frame so she can put a picture of her and her sister or family. I've got all sorts of passionworks projects running through my head because they do such adorable things! And the whole organization is just so cool!

I love the curtains that cover our pantry and utility closet. Sasha and her mom made them out of some Linen fabric. I'm loving the possiblities of organization that are these two closets! I see can racks, elfa drawers, and handled baskets in their future!

The bathroom features my shower curtain which was a gift from the Cremer's via their target gift card. We are going to get a new bath mat, probably white, and possibly get some bamboo accessories. I want to do a tank tray with some red and white candles in it.

This is the bed cave, aka Katie's bedroom. It is super tiny and adorable. I can't wait to see what she does with it. Right now it is filled with ex-roomate Abi's stuff and our landlords mattress/boxspring.

Sasha and Bonnie's rooms. Now they will be upset that I took pictures while they are not beautifully bed made clean, but that's life. They overslept this day. They both look so nice and calming. I am also allowed to paint so I'm trying to decide what I'm going to do eventually.

I love my room. It has a lot of character! The entry is part of an old closet so there is this weird 1.5 foot section with built-ins. I've got it set up as a drop station, bookshelf and storage shelf. Its like my little dresser top. I hung up the matryoshka plates from grandma and the tapestry from Dad so it really warms up the room. I need my thomas paul pillow though to pull it all together a bit more. My rug is in the dryer also which will look good also. My baby closet does fit hangers in it, thank god because I was thinking I would have to make a closet to put in the room some where.

So I'm very pleased with my room and the whole apartment. I intend to take a video this week so you can see how the whole place is laid out. I'd also like to show you how awesome the whole building is. We have access to the unoccupied apartment downstairs also because you walk through it to get to the basement where the laundry is. It is very very cool. I live for the banquette in the formal dining room!

NYC

Well, here I am in NYC! We packed up the car on Monday morning. Dad's friend John came to help and we had the cars packed and on the road by 11:00. Brad and I drove in my car and Dad and John drove the rented mini van.

I didn't get to take my tupperware, dvds, my paper crafts and two fragile kitchen things. And my box spring. So all in all not too bad. Now I wish I had more kitchen stuff because we are thinking of freshening up the kitchen over the next few months and the tupperware and my frying pans are going to be used as inspiration. Bonnie also requests the dvds because she is sick of the small collection she and Sasha have.

The drive was stressful, some rain, borrrrrrriiiiiiiiinnnnngggggg PA and NJ. How come they hide the commerce so far from the road? In Ohio you can stop at at least a McDonalds every 25 miles and you know its coming. In PA they have Unkle Doofus's Country good time happy diner every 60 miles and no chain restaraunts or places of interest to stop. If you broke something on your car, in Ohio you'd stop at a Walmart right off the exit about every 200 miles and replace it. In PA they don't have anything. It was frustrating.

We arrived at my apartment around 9:45ish. Sasha, Bonnie and the rest of us unpacked everything and ran it upstairs to the apartment. Then the boys headed over to Queens to drop Brad off at Dave Levine's.

Bonnie and I hung out in my room while I put all my clothes in my elfa drawer units and hung my clothes on my kick ass huggable hangers. We went to bed around 1:15. It was really great.

The next day I finished setting up my room. In retrospect I really think that I didn't bring much with me. My underbed doesn't have much other than some bags, and fall/winter clothes. I definitely need more hangers, but until then everything fits so nicely in my mesh folding cubes. The yarn is still in the space bags, but I've got to come up with something better to do with it. I'm also thinking about getting tint drawers to put under my bed so I can put clothes or socks or something easily kept out of the way. I also want to stack one of my elfa drawer units so I can have just one for clothes and move the crafting and hobby stuff to the one beside my bed.

Dad and John brought me my new box spring, which is very nice. Thanks for doing that chore for me! And my room was pretty much all set up.

In the evening we went to Coney Island. We ate nathan's hotdogs and fries. Nom Nom Nom! The chili cheese dog comes highly reccomended! Then we walked around. The boardwalk is very nice. I'd like to hit up the beach some day and play some skeeball! We rode the Cyclone, which was very fun. It was about $8 to ride, but totally worth it because it was a very good coaster, especially for one of those old wooden ones. Mom would have really liked it! We also rode the Wonder Wheel. It is a ferris wheel where you sit in caged cars and when they get to a certain point they swing out and rock back and forth out over the edge. It was very fun. I didn't think I would like it because I was so scared of the Wyandot Lake ferris wheel when I was little, but that one was small and ricketty with your legs all swinging free. This caged ferris wheel was nothing!

After Coney Island I said goodbye to Dad and John and Jim (John's brother who joined us) and went home to meet my roomates after tuesdaynightdinnerclub TNDC. (more on that later) I read the NFT from Jess and Murat then bonnie and I sat up and had a beer and went to bed.

I finally broke down and bought a grobal. I decided to get a baby grobal, because the large size seemed too big for a beginner project. I have no idea what I want to grow in it. Do I want basil for cooking? Do I want lavender for smelling good? Maybe start out with something useful, then switch to something fancy?

Over the past few days we've been grooming Rosa. She really likes it because she's hot all the time. She also gets dreadlocks which are not fun and pull on her delicato skin. Her least favorite part was when we got her "undercarriage" and arm pits. During the whole grooming experience you could hear her yelling "this is bullshit!!!!!" but then as soon as you'd stop she'd clean her self or pose and we knew she liked her new 'do. Ahh the things we do for love!

1. One of my favorite words is "to clopen" or "clopening" or "clopened" It means to do a closing shift, then an opening shift in succession. It is not one of my favorite things to actually do. It is one of my least favorite things to do.

2. I like to sleep with socks in my bed. When I think about it, dirty socks are kind of gross. I hope you don't judge me...

3. The first book I read was Go Dogs Go, and I called it Dogs go Dogs.

4. I like to look at expensive purses online, even though I don't think I would ever buy one or carry it if I did.

5. St. Patricks Day is one of my favorite holidays. I totally buy into the green beer/shamrock shake bullshit.

Roadtrip to Alma

I went to visit Emily this weekend. She was in A Midnight Summer's Dream (Quince). My parents, grandma and my mom's friends came up to see it too. We had a lot of fun. I slept on their sofa bed for 3 nights. Gabby, Emily's roommate and I hung out a lot because Emily had a lot of responsibilities for the play.

We drank a bit and lots of fun with the kids in her hallway. Her friends are all really nice. I had a great fun time. It was really good to see them.

On my way home I went to Ikea in Canton Michigan:

I also stopped at Rae's Yarn Boutique in Lansing. Its a super great shop in a cute little district. Rae is really nice and they have a great selection of stuff!

I find myself often writing a short story of a reply to Jacki's posts, so if you care to read her latest post then mine might make more sense.

I also binge buy supplies, and because I am also trying to only buy supplies I need ie: more fiber to spin, I've been severely holding myself back from buying a crap load of printing supplies. (I am probably going to anyways, but I've got to organize my paper crafts first.) That being said, I did buy a bunch of crappy felt today because I need it to complete projects from one of my japanese books. I had second thoughts, but it was made from recycled plastic bottles. I 'felt' that I needed to support recycled craft supplies.

I'm jealous of Jacki's felt. It looks really fun! (and very blingy) I really want some real wool felt. I've compiled a few sources online if anyone's interested in where to purchase it:

A child's Dream

I've always really enjoyed Project Runway. I even like the seasons Jacki doesn't like. (and designers she doesn't like). I also hate the annoying Christian, but I can't deny that I like his designs, and by now I probably like him best. He has a concise point of view. Most of them look like a rough collection. I really want to see him make it to fashion week. At first I was really annoyed with his ego, but now I've learned to chuck it out and be a real fan. I loved the work he and Chris did on last nights show. Talk about a perfect melding of minds. With Chris' mastery of fantastical drag and large costume work and Christian's sense of style, oi! who wouldn't have picked them!?

a gift from Dad and Emily. Rae's yarn boutique is in East Lansing. It is a really charming yarn shop and a few knitter's connection friends work there! It is barely off course on the trip to take Emily back to school.

This trip I asked for something without silk (because I found last time it was hard to spin on my drop spindle) but that was all they had. I'm still pleased though. It is soooo soft. I want to put googly eyes on it and pet it.

These were gifted from Susan Strick and her family. They are vintage knitting notions from her great aunt. It is a super great gift. No one in her family knits, and they didn't quite want to throw them away. I am honored they gave them to me! There are some good things, useful things, and fun historical things. I really like the yarn bobbins, and the home made pom-pom maker. Its so cool to see this woman's tools and how she didn't throw some away even though they were temporary or broken because she probably used them regardless. Thank you Susan and fam! I'll treasure them along with my great aunts vintage notions!

my birthday was the 27th. It was a good, chill day. I shopped in the morning, stopped at Wacked to get my bangs cut and give Amanda a cupcake (Emily had an eyebrow appt.), hung out with Erin for a while, then went to dinner with my family, and Jessurat. We went to Buca (i go every year) and had so much fun! We never stopped laughing. I always enjoy Jess and Murat. and tiramisu and those green beans! oy.

I used this recipe for Lemon Cupcakes. I had to bake them for about 35 minutes, checking every few minutes to see if they were done. I also added chopped crystallized ginger into the mix. I am in love! I tasted one and it is awesome! They are to be gifted to my elementary school friends at a get-together on Saturday.

This week Amy Karol (AngryChicken) blogged about making cupcakes in a jar. I am so excited about making some! omg it is so cool! You bake the cake in little jars then whilst they cool the heat does the seal on the lid.

Mom recently bought me a crap load of crystallized ginger because it is my fav. I'm going to make some lemon cupcakes and stir in the ginger. You can choose to frost the cupcakes or not, but they won't freeze well if they have the frosting.

Jeffery passed away in his sleep this morning. He was about 5 years old. We knew he was sick because he was throwing up on Monday and yesterday so this morning I was going to take him to the vet. We're pretty anti-med vet after Milo, but we thought he would be fine. It is very sudden, and pretty sad.

This picture is part of a set where jeffery followed me around showing me where he had rolled the yarn around the house and then sat with me all proud. It was pretty funny!

Today's: advent picture-girls ringing bells, chocolate-lit candle

I closed last night and rounded out a 10 hour day. Two people called off and since I didn't have anything better to do I decided to stay and help. Then I went to Surly Girl with Erin. We always have so many things to discuss and talk about. Winter is a time for good draft beer too. I had a Brooklyn Brewery Brown Ale and a Lagunitas Pils. Erin and I shared a frito pie. The duders at Surly Girl are the nicest staff ever. Everyone who works there is a good worker and has a high standard of customer service excellence. Seriously, they are all good people.

When I arrived home I was greeted by two packages that came in the mail!

Forming new habits

At work we've been talking a lot about making maintenance around the store a new habit. We've been told that it takes 21 days (3 weeks) to form a new habit. I've tried to read up on this theory, but for the most part there isn't much out there... Still, I think if I were to focus on making some new habits for the month of December I'd be able to easily achieve them. So that is what I'm going to do. December is Christmas month and my birthday month (dec. 27th) so I usually count down the advent days. I bought my chocolate advent calendar and I plan on making chains to count down as well.

I'm not going to share my new habits, but they are simple and easy to achieve. Most of them are trivial, but will help improve my daily life none the less. I'll let you know how it is going. Let me know if you set some goals for yourself.

Today Mom and I rode up to Kent for an advising period. Turns out, all I have to do is complete paperwork then apply for graduation. My internship has been completed and I'm good to go. What a relief!

We had tonto's for lunch. (delicious as always!) We visited all media friends. We went to Lodi outlets.

Then we threw caution to the wind and stopped at Grandpa's Cheesebarn. It was awesome because we tasted delicious cheeses, viewed cheesy gifts, and saw both Grandpa and Sweetie(Grandma)! (I should have gotten autographs!)

I bought two jelly lenses from work yesterday. They are AWESOME! The jelly part is sticky like one of those slappy hand toys and it sticks down to your phone or regular camera. There are three: Sunburst, which blurs all but a focal point; Diamond, which does the fly's p.o.v. thing; and Heart, which does a pink frame and a heart in the middle.

They work really well, and while you are taking the picture you can see how it is going to turn out.

Advice for using them:
to avoid getting a colored ring around the edge of the picture zoom out a bit. (the camera catches a bit of the lens if you don't. see pics 2, 5, 7)

This is my sewing table. I bought the table at The Container Store. It is ELFA, it is AWESOME!! It is mostly for my mom, however I've been sewing more than her lately so I get plenty of face time with this beautiful desk. After reading posts on Ravelry about binding this book I took the advice and had it bound at Office Max. $5.01! Small price to pay. That included a laminated cover and cut and bound spine.

I'd also recommend this. It makes is much stronger and stays open to the page you are using!

I never posted an entry about the wool gathering. It was a blast. Terry and I had a great fried lunch at Young's then met our friends for ice cream.

Jackie's mom is great! Travis is going to teach me to make beer. (I need to get back to him about it though, I've severely slacked on that!

I bought all sorts of sweet stuff including a llama doll! (I've wanted an alpaca or llama doll since Knitters Connection).

Have you checked out Vital Juice Daily? It is a website similar to daily candy, but for things that are good for you. Things like healthy recipes, beauty advice, workout tips, etc. I read a quick article about water purification. I think I'm obsessed with it right now since ours isn't drinkable.

The reason I'm mentioning this is because I'm a bzz agent. Basically you join these campaigns and get free stuff and the more points you get the more campaigns you get to join. Socks Socks Socks!

I've been diligently knitting socks this month and last. It has been quite enjoyable as I've found a new pattern that I'm going to knit again soon!

Without further ado:

Pair one: Upstream socks from Cat Bordhi's New Pathways for Sock knitters. If you've been following my knitting you may know I've made a few of these lately. This pair is extremely soft and delightful. The yarn is from Chameleon Colorworks. I bought it at Knitters Connection. I like this pattern because it is so basic but seems to come out different (in a good way) with each pair I knit. It's the yarn I suppose.

Pair two: Cherry Tree Hill Spiraling Coriolis Sock
New Pathways for Sock Knitters by Cat Bordhi. This one was super easy and definitely kept my interest. Another good one to memorize and do over and over.
Mods: k1 m1 increase then doubled yarn bind off. (created the frilly cuff) They are a bit tight, but thats okay because they aren't for me!

Pair three: Eleanor socks from Gigi Silvia of Socktopia
Miss Violet and Miss Lime were talking about this pattern when we were at KC and I went to see the socktopia patterns and this is definitely my favorite of them. I printed it out and put it into my "to do" project book. (Itoya is my new obsession!) I also had a ball of yarntini lemondrop laying around just dieing to be played with. I became obsessed with Yarntini last year, but couldn't ever get any because it sold out too quickly. So following her advice on her website at the time, I just asked her to custom dye me the lemondrop colorway. It is beautiful. I only have one gripe: The yarn is dirty on the light yellow stripes. I don't know if it happened in the dying process or in the yarn manufacturing process, but it definitely looks like it got messy while in a skein because it only dulls on those stripes. Its weird, but doesn't take away from how beautiful the socks have turned out. I still reccomend the yarn. (Its nice and soft) and I definitely recommend the pattern! It is super easy to memorize and then you get such a great finished product without any difficult skills involved! hehehe. I'm going to make many more pairs of this sock!!! I'd liken it to Roza's socks, except a bit more brain power in the memorization.

In other news I'm sick. Sinus cold, you name it. I've been on the generic dayquil cold and sinus for almost a week now and it just seems to not be getting better. I need to stock up on more emergen-c because I can't find it anywhere. It looks like I'll be visiting Terry soon. (at WFM) and I hope Honey Crisp apples are in.

Saturday is the Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs. Terry and I are carpooling. If anyone needs a ride let one of us know. There is a Ravelry meet up at 2 pm at the Dayton Knitters Guild booth both Saturday and Sunday. I plan on attending!

I made this with Twisted Sisters Mirage. It is cotton with rayon. I really liked the yarn! I think when I make more of these headbands I'd like to use it again.

I knit it during last weeks Teamtim Trivia night. I got a lot of compliments on it. I wore it last night to trivia, and again got lots of compliments.

I also find it weird that Lance Bass isn't boycotting containers since that is what repplaced him on that flight into outerspace. hmmmm

Miss violet is prompting a lot of fun stuffs on the internet lately such as the daily chum blog on their website. I need to set back up my Google reader. I just haven't really found an aggregator i like yet. Does anyone have one to recommend? Anyways, on the L&V ravelry page she asks what is on your needles on Wednesdays. Here's whats on my needles:

Cat Bordhi Upstream socks. My own pattern based on her mathematics and hard work. I learned everything from her class, as I will be picking up her book this afternoon because it JUST came into the Merc. The optium stretched wool from Chameleon Color works is AWESOME! It is so silky. I'm pretty much in love with it.

I am also in love with Tahki Dream. It is hard to find here in Columbus though! Jan is going to help me order some in order to finish my flower stole. The pattern is from Cafe, a japanese crochet book. I really like the pattern and I've severely enjoyed crocheting lately. Its been a good mind challenge because it challenges my mind to think differently instead of being in knit mind all the time.

I also made a hat from that Cafe book. I used Vimar Eoile a linen/ cotton blend. It is super soft. I love this hat so much. I wore it camping but I didn't get a picture of me in it. I'll have to wait until Mara posts pictures up. Until then here is one of just the hat. Again crochet, and fast and easy. I really like challenging myself to read the Japanese books!

Camping with Duders: a lovely disaster

Well we had a great shortened camping vacation. Woah!

We tooled around the island.

Saw the glacial grooves.

Groovy!

Checked out the airport.

Saw some deer.

Put up a tent.

drank some beers, cooked on a fire and got caught in torrential downpour.

needless to say we "pitched" the tent. pun intended.

We came home a day early. We really did have a good time, but wtf weather? This was supposed to be our kick-ass camping weekend before school starts back up for my teacher friends. It ended up kicking our asses. However we kicked the ass of that tent straight to the dumpster. Cathartic city.

Comfest 2007

Comfest was a fantastic drunk music filled friend filled wonderful bla bla bla... Everything I had hoped it would be; as per normal comfest-ery. I went on Saturday.

Sasha and I went together, but her roomate Erin and her friend Lindsey joined us at the pride parade.

My favorite quote of the weekend: Sasha after seeing every other gay religious affiliation in the parade: "Where are all the gay jews???" I busted a gut. or two.

Dr. Ping Pong Ball had to come and visit.

Stydie decided to NOT snort powdered sugar this year against all our egging on.

Jacob and Michael were running around. Jacob newly with mohawk.

Two old men decided to see what all the fuss was about.

Miss Meg and her beau Chris B. showed up. I love them muchly.

The street fair was good as always, but I didn't find anything worth buying...

Yuck Falls closed the solar stage, and we got to dance. Mr. Josh is in this band. They are super fun and I want to see more of them.

Meg kept telling me how photogenic I am, but man I wanted to take pictures of her chris all day. He's the photogenic one!

other favorite moments? those old men were great. Sarah Asher rocked. I ran into lots of people I hadn't seen in a while. (Dave looks good with no hair!) I got to hang out with my sweet friends. Making fun of Chris being horny and trying to seduce him into the port-o-potty. Also my friend Ryan gave me two big tokens for good beer. Thanks ryan!

Father's Day Dinner

After a horrible close to my father's day yesterday we had a quick meal from Chipotle instead of going out for a nice dinner.

We decided to post pone our nice night out until tonight so we could all cool down etc. from the catastrophe that occurred.

Dinner was good. We all had the fillet, except dad who had chicken and fillet. Our chef was both entertaining and refreshingly down to earth, as was our waitress. Shi Chi is so much better than the place we went to last week (to celebrate my new job and the beginning of summer).

I had fabulous green tea. I never take the time to really make it and it is just soooooo good!

If you are in Columbus and want to go to a superb japanese steak house choose Shi Chi! (Next to Trader Joe's on Sawmill Rd.) They have the best soup, service and tea!

We had a great breakfast made by Emily, who got a bit flustered with the potatoes and omelets. I told her she got an A for effort and a B for taste. I apparently wasn't into blowing smoke up the ass today.

still working on my cat bordhi upstream socks in panda cotton...I went back and fixed the cuff then cast on the other one. I'm going up the heel then I'll be scott free.

Plans are to go out for a sushi dinner with Brad.

On Monday I went to the merc for a stitch dictionary and bought Stitchionary 2. Megan helped me find them and we decided Barbra Walker is good, but not in color and the charts are smaller.

I also went out to Stitching Post. I got some panda cotton, wick and fixation for summer socks.

I knit this sock with the Panda Cotton, using the upstream technique I learned from Miss Cat Bordhi. It went really well, however I didn't follow her advice to increase quickly before I cast off, so I'm going to frog it back a few rows, do it then redo my rolled edge.

I also cast on a quick cobblestone edge for a top down sock in fixation. The socks will be red with multi green cuff/toe.

Yesterday Violet913 stopped in for knitting and chatting. We ended up spending all day long together. It was lots of fun. We watched the new knitty gritty episode on stitch sampler dishcloths. It was okay, but I'm really looking forward to the episodes from Scout, YarnHarlot and others.

We had Jimmy Johns for dinner which was really good, and I have leftovers for my lunch today.

We've been scheming about all sorts of road trips. We want to go visit Jackie and Travis of CiderMoon. Big plans of learning to spin, having drinks around a bonfire. (Do you guys have a fire pit? if not... we'll help you build one). We also want to go up to visit Shannon Okey in Cleveland at her new shop Stitch Cleveland. Her partner is a KSU grad from my class; I know her by name and face, but we've never met. We want to go learn spinning from Shannon and shop atRiver Colors.

In other news, we were sitting knitting and watching the office with Emily when a blue jay flew into the window right next to Violet. It left 3 large bloody spots, woozily flew off and settled on the green shade tent. The jay ended up being fine, but what a commotion!

Hey y'all! Its been a whirlwind week here in Columbus! I went out to KC on wednesday and still haven't really returned. I have one class left and it is all day long.

I've learned some AMAZING techniques in the New Revolution of sock saint Cat Bordhi. (and my second class with her starts in mere hours!)

Spent lots of yarny goodness time with a super great group of knitters from everywhere, but majority was from ohio. Our common bond would have to be Lime n Violet, who we spent most of the leisure time with as well. They are better in person, and once you've met Sideshow husband, you'll wonder why he doesn't pipe in more often!

lots more to come! including a shit ton of pictures and anecdotal stories. Shannon Okey's sheep joke will have to wait until we're in person because there are accents involved.
